Lump-sum taxation (taxation based on expenditure)

Taxation based on expenditure, known as lump-sum taxation, lets foreign nationals who take up residence in Switzerland for the first time or after at least ten years abroad, and who do not work in Switzerland, be taxed on their living expenses instead of their worldwide income and wealth.

The regime is federal but applied by the cantons; the canton of Geneva applies it. It is a matter for tax advice: a wealth manager is not a tax adviser.
